It was my first tour abroad. It was wonderful opportunity for me. We began the journey on 4.00 am from Katunayaka International Airport by Air Sahara flight, after we arrived in Chennai Airport early morning. We stayed in Tharamani Guest House. That day we got a break and in the evening, we visited Chennai town. Next day, we attended the training. At University, Professor Junjuala, and Dr. Anjali Negam welcomed us.

They have a group called “TeNet” (The Telecommunications and Computer Networking Group) they focused on meeting the technology needs of developing countries like Sri Lanka. They designed wireless in Local Loop System jointly by Midas AND Analog Devices, USA. They used that technology to get Internet connection to the rural areas. They used Tele Medicine conferences to channel online doctors through the Internet. We visited some rural areas where they use ICT to do their works efficiency. There, we could learn some technologies used to develop ICT in rural areas and we visited some Kiosks like Sri Lankan Nenasalas (knowledge centers.)

After our one week training period we were getting ready to come back to Sri Lanka. Our last night in India, was really interesting, because Dr. Anjali invited us to dinner at her place. And we met Professor Ashok Jhunjhunwala too. We talked with him and after we came to Chennai Air port at night. We arrived in Sri Lanka after finishing a successful Indian tour. What we learnt in India will be used to develop our village Mahawilachchiya too.
