This article was written by Saliya Wijesinghe and appeared in Kedapatha magazine published in Australia in October, 2012. Due to misunderstanding, he has written that it was the Sri Lanka Telecom that provided internet access to Horizon Lanka by erecting a tower. But SLT didn’t do anything towards us to date despite our constant requests. We even did not get an answer for any of the letters we wrote to them. I once requested the then SLT chairman to provide internet access to the village at a public presentation but he or any other official never paid any attention to us let alone providing connectivity. We raised 500,000 LKR for the tower in 2004 and LankaCom provided internet at a subsidized fee. Even for the mesh network, we raised funds (6 million LKR) with Enterprise Technology Pvt. Ltd. as the partner organization for the Phase I of the mesh project and Lanka Communication Services (Pvt) Ltd. partnered with us for the Phase II of the project. – Nanda Wanninayaka
