Horizon Lanka is in need of computers. It has only 4 used PCs. So, Mr. Kularathna Rajapaksha, one of the directors of HLF, informed one of his friends, Mr. Priyantha Rathnayake, a Quantity Surveyor in Qatar about the need. Then Priyantha contacted Bank of Ceylon Head Quarters and the BoC agreed to donate 4 used PCs to Horizon Lanka. Mr. Ranil Dissanayake, a manager at Sri Lanka Telecom collected the PCs from the BoC Head Quarters on behalf of Horizon Lanka. Ms. Anusha Weerasekara coordinated the donation.
The PCs were brought to Horizon Lanka last Saturday (October 18, 2014) by its computer instructor Dhananjaya Abeywickrama and his friend Chamika Rajapaksha. They collected the PCs from Ranil at Colombo Private Bus Terminal amidst heavy rains and transported them to Mahawilachchiya with a lot of difficulties in a private bus.
Horizon Lanka thanks the Management of Bank of Ceylon, especially Ms. Anusha Weerasekara and Mr. Mahinda for coordinating the donation.
We started building a hut to accommodate English, science and mathematics classes at Horizon Lanka as the space in the computer lab is not enough. We completed the hut this week. Though we originally planned to have a temporary roof with coconut leaves, later that idea was changed and we built a permanent roof which cost us 57,589 LKR. (Detailed budget given below.) A hardware vendor in the village gave us building material on a loan basis and it would be great if someone could chip in paying the bill.

Horizon Lanka Foundation started few evening and night classes for the youth in the village. They study English and ICT in these classes. For ICT, they learn Windows OS, MS Office, graphic designing, computer hardware and web based applications. English classes are mainly designed to improve four skills of the youth. English songs and films also are used for lessons making the classes enjoyable.
Most of the youth work for various employees. Some of the youth do higher studies. Mr. Nanda Wanninayaka teaches English lessons while Dhananjaya Wijewickrama conducts ICT classes.
