HORIZON LANKA PROJECTS - HORIZON LANKA PRESENTATION AT UNIVERSITY OF COLOMBO (Updated: October 20, 2006) |
Hi I am Duleeka Dilhani. And I am Nilmini Udayakanthi. We are going to describe you about the projects we are doing. Horizon Lanka Foundation is the mother organization. This is run by 5 directors. All of them are youth from our area. We believe in the power of youth in our area. Horizon Lanka Academy is the educational wing of the Foundation. This is run by an experienced head master, Mr Ranjith Pushpakumara. Here we use modern technology to make learning more exciting to students. We started Model eVillage project with ICT Agency of Sri Lanka. They provided 5 PCs and connectivity for us to do this. Here we expect to make ICT a common tool in the village. Digital Butterflies Through Digital Butterflies project we encourage every family to by a used computer. So far about 50 students have received computers in the village. Now Mahavilachchiya has become the village with the highest density of PCs in Sri Lanka . Now, the parents too, are being educated in the benefits of computers over TVs. recently, 30 of these PCs were connected to Net using mesh technology. We designed a project code named Digital Ambassadors for our senior students to become ICT ambassadors. Each senior student is to receive a laptop with donor support. They will be provided other necessary peripherals as well. We can use these Digital Ambassadors as ICT consultants to grassroots level projects. Microscholarships Microscholarships project is there to provide financial assistance to needy students. The deserving students are provided scholarships with a sponsor. The student is expected to communicate with the sponsor electronically. eFarmers We have planned to start a project for the farmers in the village. If the funding is available, we will provide financial assistance to the farmers through eFarmers project. We also will provide them the best available technology using the web. We also are looking for avenues to launch an e-commerce portal where the farmers can sell their product at a good price. Vocational Training We hope to start a vocational training center if we get a funding agency support our plan. We will design a good English training program as well for the trainees. Once the training is over, we hope to provide them job opportunities by using our huge sponsor and well-wisher base. Download the PowerPoint Slide of this presentation. Thank you |
